In this project, I created my own wersion of Roy Lichenstein’s art.
His signature style is really close to comic style and usually he minimises the details and uses flat colors. I also realized that he only uses dots on the skin of his figures so I did the same thing. I kept my details in minimum but balanced so we can easily see the whole siluette.
I also aded two little goldsfish which are like a special symbol from my childhood, with them I do feel good abot adding something personal.
For making this, I used Illustrator and mainly the “Pen tool”.
after inserting my photo in illustrator, I decreased the opacity of it and created a new layer on it (Ctrl+L).
with the “P” shortcut, I created the siluette of my face and created another layer on it for the eyes.
For the eyes, I used pathfinder tool. It is a usefull tool for creating complex shapes.
Firts we are creating the white part of our eyes with the pen tool. then we are creating the colorfull part of the eye with the elips tool (L). For the cut out part of the elips, we go to Window>pathfinder. We usually use divide or unite in this tool.
For this one, we use the divide tool. After pressing the divide tool, we need to go to selection tool
and sellect the “group selection tool” So we can seperate the extra part out.
After finishing our eyes and all the base parts like lips, hair and clothes, now we can add the characteristic dots.
For doing that, we need to duplicate our face layer first.
After making it recognizable color, we are going to Windows>swatch libraries>patterns>basic graphics>basic graphics dots
After chosing our dot type, our dots will be on the main skin layer.
For the characteristic line type we can use the width tool (shift+W)
After adding the last details and using width tool on general figures including lines, I created the background with the vibrant orange and aded white on it for salmon siluette.
With that, i finished my Roy Liechtenstein project.
