While searching for the right style for the game and animation, we tried more than one way...
The first idea was to make an illustrator used game which we will use Adobe illustrator for the animations and the assets.
Assets were ready, but I realized that it is not suitable for the Poko's characteristics (bubble needs to move more, movements need to be more natural and soft and lack of emotion.) So I decided to try to animate the pixel art version of her.
(Illustrator made Poko)
(Illustrator made Orchid lady)
So I did the pixel form of her,
separated the pieces and tried to animate it
in Adobe Animation, just like I did with the Illustrator version. But again, it was unsuccessful.

So I realized that it was not only about the style but also about the animation technique.
This is where I decided to make a pixel game, so we can achieve that nostalgic feeling while the pixels will help with the aesthetic and visuals but also with the movements.
Sprite sheets for Poko:
The hard part of the hand drawing frame-by-frame animation was how much time it consumed but the results were pretty good.
After deciding that we were doing a pixel game, for better time management I also did an animation for our game's evil character "Metal Roots" which is a metal tree that controls the first level of upper city about deforestation.
sprite sheets for metal roots:
poko idle animation
Poko shooting animation
Poko death animation
Poko jump animation
Poko walk animation
Poko Run\Sprint animation
I also did the Green version of Poko: The Grass Poko
Green Poko Idle
Green Poko walk
Green Poko Run\Sprint
Green Poko jump
Seed Animation
Seed Idle
Seed run/walk
Metal Roots Animation
Metal Roots attack/ idle animation
